Many years ago, it was cheaper for acetate to be cleaned rather than buying new acetate for cels. One such cleaning agent was known as 'the dip' (which is referenced in the movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" No wonder 'toons are so scared of it!) Sadly many cels were destroyed by dipping. Furthermore, cels made from dipped pieces of acetate can suffer much decay.
