Kyo from Dark Angel Kia Asamiya, Manga Story & Art
As I mention in the description of another sketch, I went years without being able to get one of my own power, for one reason or antoher. Kia Asamiya is known for being a fast sketch as well as someone who generally goes to a lot of cons and holds a lot of signings. Still, it wasn't until this year, 2004, that I ended up getting one from him. Even when I was gathering my friends at SDCC to go to his signing, others were making fun of me (with me of course), "What you don't have one? I think I have a few in my pocket? Want one?"
Truth be told, I think it was worth the wait. Asamiya seems to have stopped doing just the quick profile and moved onto something of the more 3/4 view. This is Kyo, the little faerie familiar from Dark Angel. She's very sweet and I really like her design. Plus wings! I always remember sitting up late and night next to the space heater, reading the translated copies I had bought. It was fortunate that the gentleman in front of us brought the Dark Angel artbook with him, because Asamiya needed a reference.
Of course, I think the real highlight of this signing was getting Jenn to come along and get something. She hadn't done this sort of thing before. Asamiya loves Batman and so does Jenn, so it worked out rather well. She seemed pretty psyched and I was happy to see it.
