Valkyrie from Macross
Tenjin Hidetaka - Mecha Artist
Tenjin Hidetaka does amazing mecha art throughout the Macross series as well as several others. His work can be seen in the animation as well as in hanken images for model kit covers and others. I'm a long time Macross fan and I've always thought the Valkyries were neato, so I was happy to pick up this piece in the Gallery of Fantastic Art auction at PMX.
I've worked with the Gallery of Fantastic Art at several cons including AX, AXNY, and PMX. They bring gorgeous works for display and sale and have donated generously to the charity auctions in addition to holding their own. They often sell smaller items at their traveling gallery as well so at PMX I was happy to pick up some Haibane Renmei artworks.
This piece comes from their personal auction at PMX which was a source of much interest for me and my friends. It was a silent auction that went live at the end. It was fun hanging out by their exhibit with familiar faces and seeing who got what. All in all I think most people walked away with something and it was all very laid back. A very fond memory in the making.
The detail in this one is just amazing. Strong lines both straight and curved create wonderful shading. Though part of it is covered, it says "VF-1 Super Gerwalk."
