The theme of Takamura's panels at Fanime 2006 was "cute girls." Seriously, it was in the title of both panels. Takamura is pretty open minded about all types of cute girls he has created, appreciating them all. I've always really liked the design for Mahoro in her battle mode. She's still cute, but she gets across that she's also very cool and very tough. Plus, you can see her long hair better in the higher ponytail than in her maid style one. I was delightedly surprised when Takamura generously drew me such a Mahoro. He seemed to be very focused on it so we didn't get to converse much. He's quite quick actually!
I really like (in addition to it being battle mode) Mahoro's expression in this sketch. I just love the way she's looking out at the viewer. I think it's really captures the cute, endearing and reassuring, but she's still tough.
