Ishihama Masashi - Yomiko Readman

Yomiko Readman from Read or Die
Ishihama Masashi, Character Designer

This was the first sketch I ever won of my own power, it took me years. I remember the large and silent LP1 as they were calling out the numbers... and the first one matched mine. Here I was in a little school girl's outfit staring at my numbers in disbelief. The moment seemed to last forever but I'm sure I then shot up pretty quickly to claim my prize. I had to force myself to smile and look gracious because I was just so surprised that it happened, it finally happened to me. I had been trying so hard that I felt as if the world had stopped silent and my walk up to the front was ceremonious. Yeah, I'm nuts... it keeps ya healthy. ^_^

Ishihama is a very quiet guy, a stark contrast to Masunori and Kurata who are buckets of monkeys. I loved watching him draw but he seemed to want to open up a bit then so I asked if he went to art school. He said he did but ended up dropping out. I said it appeared to have worked out for him.

This is Yomiko when she's down to only one side of her hair braided in the OVA. It's The Paper with paper! She's very cute. Ishihama said that her thick men's glasses (given to her by an ex), are a part of her character so he can't actually be drawing her without them (minus speciality scenes). I love the very strong and bold look this sketch has in person.
