Haibane Renmei is one of the best anime I've seen recently. I was very psyched when I heard ABe was coming to AX. A group of friends and I went as a group of the Haibane. I was in charge of most of the wings and halos... and I wasn't going to be able to hand them over until at con! Luckily, they seemed to all fit right. :)
I very happily got to be Reki. So, after quite a long wait in line, on multiple days, when I got to ABe, I told him that I had cosplayed as her previously. He had been drawing an SD Rakka with all of his signatures, but after he heard that, he explained it to Mr. Ueda (since my Japanese is probably a horrible muddle to understand even when I'm not mumbling) and thanked me and drew me a Reki instead (she's also saying 'thanks' ^^).
The other signature is from producer Ueda Yasuyuki. He's a very cool guy and one of the forces behind a lot of ABe's works. He was also hanging out at Murata's Hellsing panel the year before. ABe and Ueda are obviously really good friends. There was a running gag through the panel about Ueda being somewhat Yakuza-like. His signature includes a chibi of himself (Ueda can draw really well, he donated several gorgeous pieces to the art auction) also commenting about Reki. On some other signatures, his chibi can be seen claiming not to be in the Yakuza. :)
